Join artist Ashley Hold for this three-day course and learn the essentials of still life through composition and colour theory.

The classical definition of a still life painting is a work depicting inanimate, typically commonplace objects. Yet there are rich associations inherent to this genre. Artists including Morandi, Picasso, Van Gogh and Cézanne have each re-invented this genre, breathing life into this seemingly traditional approach to painting.
Over three days, Ashley will demonstrate how to successfully set-up and paint a still life in oils. You will learn methods for making accurate drawings, planning a composition and transferring this drawing to a painting. Once you have mastered these basics, you will learn some elemental colour theory. Ashley will show you how to mix a primary colour palette and white to create rich elements of colour, texture and weight in your paintings.
This course is ideal if you are looking to simplify and freshen up your approach to oil painting. Overcome common stumbling blocks and demystify the process of drawing and painting from life. You’ll learn essential knowledge and techniques that you can apply to any painting project.
