Join artist Tom Rickman for this exploration of folded material on the human form. Working from a model learn how drapery not only covers or reveals but animates and extends the body in this online webinar.
Taking iconic images from Japanese artist Kitawara Utamoro, as well as the works of Rembrandt and Sargent, you are invited to join us for an recorded online figure drawing session exploring composition, design and expression of the clothed body.
Working from a clothed model, draw-along with Tom from the comfort of your own home as he guides you through a series of exercises aimed to inspire a fresh approach to capturing the figure. See how the human form is effected, described and suggested by draping material over the body. By watching Tom at work, learn how to use simple, bold lines and shade to describe the figure.

Starting with 5 and 10 minute poses, these will be followed by longer poses to develop your drawings. You will be using charcoal on paper.
Recorded in our studio overlooking Porthmeor Beach, you will draw alongside Tom, from the model. Get a unique insight into how to work with line and form to capture creases and folds over the human figure.
The screen will be split between the model and Tom’s paper throughout the session so you can draw and paint along with Tom. Your view will be different due to how we position the cameras.
