Find new ways to connect with the landscape around you with this expressive and explorative online webinar.

Natalie Day
Natalie day – The Deep Quiet

Following on from artist Natalie Day’s first webinar ‘Experimental Landscapes’ (although it is not essential that you attended), deepen your relationship with the landscape and find ways to bring a greater sense of place and meaning to your work.

Learn new, powerful tools for moving on from a ‘stuck’ painting, and see how writing can offer another technique to connect with the landscape.  Ideal if you are looking for new ways to invigorate your practice and approach your work as well as strengthen the connection between your subject, yourself and the viewer.

There will be a pre-course task to complete beforehand to visit a site that inspires your work and to document it in various ways: note-taking, photographs, reference sketches, or simply walking and sitting. Working from this task, previous work and from memory, develop drawings which will eventually be made into a larger painting.

Letting go of attachment to outcomes is an important element of my practice and teaching. I begin by gathering visual and sensory information, recording what I can on paper, then editing and simplifying back in the studio and using this to inform new pieces. By keeping myself curious I can step away from the idea of ‘making a painting’ and simply enjoy the process of exploring and letting the materials guide me.
