Neil Canning
Although group demonstrations and talks are an important part of the way I teach, I prefer to do as much as possible on a one-to-one basis. I believe this helps students develop their own creative voice and gears everything to their own personal level of development. Also addressing the direction they would like their work to take.

Although on the surface my work may appear to be quite abstract it remains very much a part of the landscape/seascape tradition.
Rather than taking the traditional approach of a view being recorded from a fixed viewpoint, I prefer to give an impression of moving through the landscape and suggest the drama of wind, tides and changing light.
I am largely self-taught after deciding not to pursue a conventional art school course. I did study in the studio of a professional artist for 3 years and attended life classes in Oxford colleges.
My work has gradually evolved, and my surroundings have always played a vital part in how things have developed. In my view for an artist there is no end to the learning process.
