Fire up your drawing confidence with this half day workshop. Working in the coastal landscape and in the studio learn new ways of looking at the world and interpreting it through your drawings in a sketchbook.

Drawing is the simplest yet the most rich and versatile of mediums. Join us for this half day workshop, designed to help students to develop a connection between looking and creating.

Learn to create the mood with tonal values and master the power of the simple line. Move on to explore an intuitive and experimental approach to mark making that will combine observation with interpretation. Learn techniques to increase your confidence and develop vital skills in a range of approaches, giving yourself a completely new creative toolbox.

The St. Ives School of Painting is a friendly and welcoming place for all levels of ability, class sizes are kept small to create a nurturing environment for all. This is an ideal workshop if you are a beginner or an artist that wishes they had stronger drawing skills. Unlock a new love for drawing that will last you a lifetime.

Please note: This is an adult workshop, however we would welcome children aged 14 or over, if accompanied by a paying adult. This is the case as we cannot guarantee that all our tutors have been DBS checked.

I have enjoyed teaching at The School for over 25 years and this has always gone hand in hand with my own practice, as I find sharing ideas and techniques stimulating and rewarding. My approach is to give students the confidence to develop their skills, to think for themselves and so extend their visual language and find their own path.

What to Bring

All materials are provided. As we plan to work outdoors for some of the duration of the workshop, please wear sensible shoes and bring a coat or sunhat as appropriate.

Timings and Breaks

The workshop starts at 9.30am and finishes at 12.30pm, please aim to arrive ten to fifteen minutes before the start time. We will serve tea and coffee at break times during the morning.
