Join us for this two hour recording of a figure class inspired by the Bay Area Movement artist David Park. Broadcast from our studio in St Ives with a clothed model.

David Park’s experiments with shape, colour, texture and temperature in painting will lead the way in this session.

Park was a key figure in the Bay Area Movement of San Francisco. He felt it was important to focus on the present, developing a representative style in thick paint and vigorous brushstrokes. Using Park’s representational style, we will respond to the world around us as the starting point for experimentation.

Gary will share with you some of the key facets of Park’s approach that has nourished his own practice for an inspirational two hours of drawing and painting from the figure.

These sessions are designed to inspire, instruct and surprise. Suitable for any level of experience.

You will see both the model and Gary as he works along with you.

Taught by

After many years as an illustrator I taught on the BA Illustration course at Falmouth University. In 2011 I began teaching at St Ives School of Painting. I deliver courses involved with the figure, still life and landscape. My practice as a painter feeds into the teaching, often through demonstrations. The school is wonderful – the history the ethos and most of all the people.
