Course details
Create beautiful postcard sized paintings, inspired by our town and beach surroundings, using simple pen and wash techniques. No experience necessary, just come along and have fun.

A relaxed session spent in our studio overlooking Porthmeor beach and if the weather permits, some walking around St Ives. We will work on simplifying and pairing back images to get at the essence of place. Our experienced tutor will first show you how to capture a simplified outline of our scene with a line drawing, then adding texture and depth using tonal washes of colour.
An enjoyable workshop which will give you core skills you can develop and have fun with. The St. Ives School of Painting is a friendly and welcoming place for all levels of ability, class sizes are kept small to create a nurturing environment for all.
Offered as either a half-day or a full-day experience, the longer format allows for more in-depth exploration, extended painting time and more individual guidance to develop your work.
Please note: This is an adult workshop, however we would welcome children aged 14 or over, if accompanied by a paying adult. This is the case as we cannot guarantee that all our tutors have been DBS checked.

What our students say
I wanted to learn to be confident to use a pen to draw. The tutor Hilary was fantastic at showing how and what to do and therefore gave me confidence that I could do it.
I enjoyed getting out into St Ives and using the techniques from the studio.
