Join us for the second part in this online figure class inspired by the work of artist Henri Matisse. Extending from the last session, this time we’ll be adding rich colour to Matisse’s lively compositions.

Following on from her first Matisse-inspired webinar, artist Alice Mumford will show you how to add colour to the rich patterned surface’s we explored in the first version. Using pen, stick or brush to explore patterns and mark-making, learn how Matisse created rich, lively drawings embracing the fabric of the model’s clothes and the patterned interior backdrops. Then, using a range of materials and mediums, add colour to your drawings and add even more vibrancy to your compositions. This is the second of two sessions focusing on Matisse. Ideal if you’ve already attended the first session but not essential either!
Working from a clothed model in our Porthmeor Studios, this will be a fun and experimental session. Inspired by Matisse’s paintings, we will set up a vibrant backdrop full of pattern and colour for you to work from. The first fifteen minutes will be spent using stick and inks to draw, followed by another 15 minutes doing the same. This will be followed by 1 hour of drawing in charcoal and then going into colour and then another final session doing this again for half an hour.
You will see both the model and Alice as she works along with you.
