Join us for this two hour online figure class focusing on light, shade, and the qualities of tone to create atmosphere. Recorded from our studio in St Ives with a clothed model, join in at home with guided exercises and watch live or later.
In this edition of Figure, artist Ashley Hold demonstrates how using light, shade, and the qualities of tone, can be used to create a sense of atmosphere when capturing the figure. See how this technique can also describe the space and textures of a scene.
The session will cover how to plan a composition, looking at tonal structures, before working in tone, and generally avoiding the line. Looking at artists including Klimt, Seurat and Antonio Lopez, see how various artists have used light, shade and tone to depict the figure in both drawing and painting.
You will see both the model and Ashley as he works along with you.
