Cornwall: A Year by the Sea
As our studios fill up for another busy summer of workshops, we’re delighted to be part of Channel 5’s magical 10-part series celebrating the people and places that make Cornwall so special.
The series follows some of the half a million residents who call Cornwall home, from fishermen and farmers to artisans and conservationists.
This week’s episode visits our studios during a painting workshop led by a familiar face… can you guess who?

Coming Soon: The Turning Point
The Turning Point for St Ives School of Painting is a new short film exploring a pivotal period in the School’s history. Through archive material and the memories of those who were there, it tells the story of how the School survived an uncertain chapter, renewed its purpose and laid the foundations for the creative community it is today.
Join us for a free screening at Porthmeor Studios during the St Ives September Festival. The film will be shown on the hour, every hour from 10am-4pm on Wednesday 23 September, with no booking required.

Go back in time with the BFI National Archive…
Another World, a short film preserved by the BFI National Archive, takes viewers through the streets, harbour and artistic community of post-war St Ives. Filmed in 1948, it captures the town at a moment in its history – including one special sequence featuring our founder, Leonard Fuller, teaching a class inside the Porthmeor Studios and setting out through St Ives with a group of students.
