Course details

In this imaginative workshop with Emma Saffy Wilson, young artists will create their own miniature world.

young person

Using recycled materials from St Ives School of Painting, we’ll transform simple boxes with papier mâché before filling them with tiny clay creations and found objects. Along the way, children will make small sculptural pieces – like bowls, vases and decorative forms and explore how to arrange them to tell a story.

This playful session encourages curiosity, careful looking and creative thinking. By slowing down and paying attention, even the smallest objects can become something special.

Children are welcome to bring a small object or two from home – such as a shell, stone, or photo – to include in their piece, but there will be plenty of materials provided.

For children aged 7-10, this is a Kids Art Club like no other, where children get to work on easels and use the same high quality art materials as our adult courses. They are taught by experienced artist tutors and start to take their first steps as Young Artists.

SCHOLARSHIPS: Thanks to generous support from our fee paying families and St Ives Rotary, we are able to offer up to 4 scholarship places per session awarded on a need basis. If you are on a low income please contact [email protected] for an application form to apply for a free scholarship place.

FUNDRAISING: If you are able to support a free place for another child, we would be hugely grateful if you would add a donation to your booking at checkout.

Meet Your Tutor

Emma Saffy Wilson

Emma Saffy Wilson

Saffy studied Multi Media at Plymouth College of Arts and Studio Ceramics at Falmouth. She is intrigued by natural raw materials and has been exploring soil and mould in her practice, looking at context and how that changes the ‘value’ of artworks, aswell as traditional Japanese printing techniques.

She has worked as a freelance community artist since graduating in 2000, delivering arts projects in a variety of settings, from galleries and colleges to more community-based settings.  She enjoys working with her groups at Carefree and Trelya to encourage disengaged young people who would not normally engage with the arts to develop their creative skills.

Safeguarding

At St Ives School of Painting we recognise our moral and statutory responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.

Our Trustees, staff and volunteers share this commitment. All our tutors are DBS checked, see our Safeguarding Policy under our Quick Links in the footer.
