Learn to capture the emotional and sensory elements of a place in a moment of time 🖼

During our 3-day course with @e.crow.studio we will take inspiration from the likes of Claude Monet (artwork pictured), the Scottish Colourists as well as Van Gogh and Whistler, and venture outside ‘en plein air’ to paint the immersive landscapes and seascapes of St. Ives.

“As adults, we don’t often get the opportunity to play or explore” 💚

Laura explains how before going into her studio, she’ll often go into the outdoors and take in as much as she can, whether it’s the different colours, shapes or the feelings that the place evokes.

As part of this year’s Mental Health Awareness Month, this week’s theme is #Momentsformovement - exploring how our body and minds are connected. So we want to show you how you can explore the outdoors and create art at the same time.

Creating art + being outdoors 🤝

Greg explains how the process of creating art in the landscape can offer a pathway to fulfilling a number of our needs as humans. Connecting with nature, spending time with others and having the chance to slow down our body and our mind.

“Take a moment to notice your breath” 🫁

Kitty shares an exercise that she often uses before starting a creative process, to help her and her students feel rooted and relaxed, before shifting into a focused space.

Acccording to research, exercises such as breathwork can help to decrease our blood pressure, increase heart rate variability and - importantly for artists - promote creativity!

Throughout this week, we’re going to be sharing the thoughts of our tutors, who - like so many - use the process of creating art to support their mental wellbeing. 💚

We’ll explore how different creative processes help to slow down our mind, give us the opportunity to play and explore, and allow us to be at one with nature.
