Three days connecting to the landscape with @houghliz ✨

Our first Landscape Retreat gave students time to look closely at the St Ives landscape before bringing their observations back into the studio.

Through one-to-one tutorials and generous guidance from Liz, the group developed expressive mixed-media work rooted in their own experience of place.

By the final day, the studio was full of individual responses to landscape.

Gelli printing is fast, playful and full of unexpected results - which is why it can be a helpful process for anyone wanting to loosen up creatively and experiment freely 💫

1) It takes the pressure off
Each print is unique, so there’s no need to aim for perfection. You can respond to what appears on the plate and let the process lead.

2) It encourages experimentation
With rollers, stencils, textured materials and found objects, even simple marks can become layered, expressive prints.

3) It helps you build ideas quickly
In just one day, students created large collections of artwork - full of colour, texture and composition ideas to develop further.
