Join Kitty for a fun and inspiring morning workshop, creating your own unique brushes and using them to paint a vibrant Summer still life.

Kitty will show you some easy ways to design and build your own drawing and mark-making tools, as many artists have done before including some of the legendary St Ives artists like Sandra Blow and Bernard Leach.

You will use found materials like seaweed, shells and wood, along with string, wire and bamboo to assemble your own unique ‘brushes’ which you can then try out on different surfaces to explore the variety of marks you can make. You will then draw a vibrant Summer still life in the studio, using your new tools and colourful water-based inks.

As well as expanding your mark-making know-how, this workshop will help you to loosen your approach to painting and give you more confidence to play and take risks, which will enrich your future work.

The St. Ives School of Painting is a friendly and welcoming place for all levels of ability, class sizes are kept small to create a nurturing environment for all.

Timings and Breaks

The workshop will run from 9.30am until 12.30pm. Please arrive 10-15 minutes before the start time so you can check in at reception and get settled in. We will serve tea and coffee at break times during the morning.
