Course details
Explore the colour, movement and atmosphere of St Ives through plein air studies and expressive studio oil painting.

Beginning outdoors, you’ll make a series of quick sketches and studies in charcoal en plein air, capturing the movement, colour and atmosphere of the coastline and surrounding landscape.
Back in the studio, these observational studies will become the starting point for expressive and dynamic oil paintings. Guided through loose and intuitive approaches to painting, you’ll explore how to simplify the landscape, build lively compositions and create a strong sense of place through colour, mark-making and texture.
Along the way, you’ll gain practical insights into assembling a versatile oil painting palette, using a variety of tools and developing confident, energetic brushwork. This workshop is ideal for anyone looking to loosen up their painting style and respond more freely to the landscape around them.
Please note: This is an adult workshop, however we would welcome children aged 14 or over, if accompanied by a paying adult. This is the case as we cannot guarantee that all our tutors have been DBS checked.
