Supporting the Next Generation of Cornish Artists
We’re thrilled to share some exciting news: a new collaboration between three charitable trusts is helping us open our studio doors even wider to young artists across Cornwall.
Thanks to the combined generosity of the Roy Ray Legacy Fund, the Wilhelmina Barns-Graham Trust, and – newly joining us this summer – the Little Parc Owles Trust, our Emerging Artists Bursary is giving more 19 to 25-year-olds the chance to grow as artists and take their practice to the next level.
The bursary offers 80% of the course fee (up to £340) for selected 3 or 4 day studio courses at the School. Open to young people aged 19–25 living in Cornwall, the scheme supports those developing a serious visual arts practice and looking to grow professionally.

The Roy Ray Legacy Fund honours the memory of Roy Ray, a former Principal of the School who played a pivotal role in our development. His passion for opening up access to the arts lives on through this programme. The Wilhelmina Barns-Graham Trust, established by one of the key figures of the St Ives modernist movement, continues to champion the development of young artists.
This year, the Little Parc Owles Trust joins the programme, bringing vital new support and helping expand the reach of the bursary across Cornwall. The charity, Little Parc Owles Trust, was set up in 2002 to provide grants to support projects and events in Cornwall that engage audiences of all ages and backgrounds in Fine and Applied Arts.
Opening up the Studios
The bursary offers a unique experience for emerging artists, living in Cornwall, to learn from experienced working artists in our historic studios overlooking Porthmeor Beach – students will benefit from a truly inspirational setting with deep roots in modern British art.
For Amy, a 24-year old emerging artist from Falmouth, the bursary was transformative.

I was pushed to start my paintings in a completely different way. It has been amazing to having a tutor to be able to give active feedback as I am working. This was an absolutely amazing experience. I feel so privileged to have been granted the bursary. Thank you all so much.
Amy
Amy now plans to build on the approaches she developed during her time at the School and wants to keep the momentum going in her art.

Applications Now Open
The bursary is open on a rolling basis, with applications accepted until all places are filled. Applicants must live in Cornwall, be aged 19–25, and demonstrate a commitment to visual arts.
