Course details
Join Liz Hough for a creative day in St Ives, taking inspiration from the work of renowned artist Terry Frost, and exploring ideas through a mixed media process.

We will begin our day by following in Terry Frost’s footsteps and tracing his “walk along the quay” series, creating quick charcoal studies and using loose mark-making. Capture the rhythm of boats bobbing on the water, the strong geometry of harbour walls, and fleeting moments along the quay, working instinctively to respond to shape, movement and atmosphere.
Back in the studio, after a relaxed tea break, these sketches will become the foundation for a mixed media painting. Using vibrant painted papers, collage, and bold painted forms and motifs, you’ll begin to develop your own abstract composition, embracing the abstract style of Terry Frost.
Liz will demonstrate how collage can be used as a starting point to develop a mixed media painting on board, working into the composition with acrylic paint and line work.
The day is a perfect blend of observation and creativity, giving you the chance to explore your artistic voice in a supportive environment.
Please note: This is an adult workshop, however we would welcome children aged 14 or over, if accompanied by a paying adult. This is the case as we cannot guarantee that all our tutors have been DBS checked.
