Course details

A developmental weekend working with two professional artists, combining 1-1 tutorials with a fun practical weekend of painting. Aimed at those with an art practice.

This is an opportunity to invigorate your practice, with mentor support, professional advice and learn new skills in a fun non judgemental way.

You may be an Alumni of our longer Porthmeor Programme and would like to reconnect with your peers in the the supportive space of Porthmeor Studios or you may have an art practice you would like to develop.

The one-to-one tutorials with artist Kate Southworth, are an invaluable opportunity to focus in on your work with the undivided attention of professional artists and tutors, helping you to plot the course for your independent practice.

Guest tutor Jill Eisele will join you in our studios, to explore in a practical workshop, ‘Dynamic Landscape in Oils’. Inspired by expressive painting from artists, past and present in St Ives and beyond you will develop work both outside and back in the studio with brushes, knives and other tools to develop mark-making. You will respond to your direct observation and studies to re-invent a free and intuitive expression of landscape.

The weekend is an affirming experience of making art in an inspirational space and will leave you feeling liberated and reenergised for the road ahead.

Kate is the mentor lead for our year long Porthmeor Programme.

View Jill’s Work

My practice begins with drawing, often taking me to wild and wonderful parts of Cornwall, capturing fleeting moments where light and colour create atmosphere and expression. These underpin my largely figurative paintings, which convey a sense of incompleteness; of place and mystery.
