Learn to capture the architecture and seascape of St Ives. Progress through drawing and waterbased paint studies to create a figurative oil painting to take home.
Capture your time in iconic St Ives, its lichen covered roofs, cobbled streets, winding pathways and whitewashed cottages gleaming in the sun all with the backdrop of a turquoise sea. Learn to confidently convey this special place using line, colour and shape.
You will explore a range of techniques to ensure your sketchbook is a useful tool back in the studio. Progress from annotated sketch to tonal drawings, on to gouache painting and then into oils There will be useful demos packed with helpful tips and Gary will be on hand throughout to help you as you progress.
Teaching will be through demonstrations and one to one time with each student. The tutor Gary Long also works on his own piece during the sessions so students can observe the process of development.

Who would this course suit?
Any level will enjoy this course. There will be a balance of techniques, structured exercise as well as time to explore in your own time the subject. There will be some walking involved around the town.

What to Bring
Our studios are fully equipped and we provide you with all the materials you need for your course. However, if you have a favourite set of brushes or any specialist materials that you would prefer to use, please bring them with you.
Timings and Breaks
The first day starts at 10am and finishes at 4.30pm, please aim to arrive ten to fifteen minutes before the start time.
All course days after that start at 9.30am and finish at 4pm and there will be an hour for lunch. There are plenty of nearby places to eat and we will serve tea and coffee at break times during the day.
