Oil paint is a wonderfully rich and versatile medium, known for its depth of colour, flexibility and expressive potential. This welcoming 3-hour workshop is designed as an accessible introduction to oil painting, ideal for complete beginners or those looking to refresh their skills in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Through a series of simple exercises and guided demonstrations, you’ll explore how to lay out a palette, mix colour effectively and apply paint using a variety of tools and techniques. The emphasis is on experimentation, enjoyment and building confidence, allowing you to discover the unique qualities of oil paint without feeling overwhelmed.

By the end of the session, you’ll leave with a stronger understanding of the medium and the confidence to continue exploring oil painting independently.

Please note: This is an adult workshop, however we would welcome children aged 14 or over, if accompanied by a paying adult. This is the case as we cannot guarantee that all our tutors have been DBS checked.

I try to connect people to their environment with my art. I started out as a landscape painter, but it was only through undertaking a masters degree in 2009 that I realised the best way to connect people to their environment was to take them into that environment and get them to make the art!

What to Bring

We will provide all the materials you need. If you have chosen a landscape class please wear appropriate footwear as you may spend time on the beach we look out over, a short walk from the studio.

Timings and Breaks

The workshop will run from 09:30am until 12:30pm. Please arrive 10-15 minutes before the start time so you can check in at reception and get settled in. We will serve tea and coffee at break times during the workshop.
