Kerry Harding
The best work comes when your shoulders are down and the hours disappear, not as easy as it sounds as most artists will tell you and so its been one of the guiding principles in my approach as a tutor. After over a decade of teaching I have also most enjoyed the process of helping students find their own voice, its already there and so hugely rewarding to help with this discovery.
In Harding’s works seemingly familiar scenes are distorted, their elements manipulated such that they cannot be pinpointed in reality. She plays with perspective using a variety of techniques and the key to their creation is that the paintings have lived many lives, canvases are reworked often over several years. Living on and inspired by the north Cornish coast the centuries of erosion and deposition shaping this coastline are mirrored in this physical working and reworking of the surface.
Kerry holds a BA in Fine Art from The Ruskin Oxford University (1991-94) and an MA in painting from Falmouth (2000-03), she exhibits widely and is currently represented by Candida Stevens Gallery in Chichester and London.
