Course details
Celebrate the harvest season through printmaking with artist Ellen Love.
Taking inspiration from the bold shapes, textures and colours of vegetables – from cabbages and squashes to turnips and beans – you’ll create your own striking repeat-pattern prints.
Explore how artists use repetition, pattern and natural forms to develop original designs, inspired by the work of Ben Nicholson during his time in St Ives. Ellen will also share her own lino prints of turnips, inspired by stories of vegetables uncovered by landslides in Devon. Experiment with printmaking techniques, develop your creative skills, and take home a series of unique prints of your own.
For young artists aged 11-16, this group helps young people connect with their creativity and get to know contemporary art practices.
SCHOLARSHIPS: Thanks to generous support from our fee paying families and St Ives Rotary, we are able to offer up to 4 scholarship places per session awarded on a need basis. If you are on a low income please contact [email protected] for an application form to apply for free scholarships.

What to Bring
Our studios are fully equipped and we provide you with all the art materials you need for your workshop, so just bring yourself and lots of enthusiasm!
We provide aprons but encourage you to not wear your best clothes.
Timings and Breaks
The workshops start at 2pm and finish at 4pm. We will have a comfort break in the middle.
The class will be held in the ground floor studio at the School of Painting.

Ellen Love
My practice rolls with the seasons. When the buds are forming, when the growth is raucous and full of life, I want to be in it so during Spring and Summer I spend time gathering sketches and ideas from outside. In the Winter months I bring these sketches together inside into patterns and start carving and printing. And then the cycle begins again when Spring comes!
Although my prints often focus on plants, I try to use the plants as a way of telling a wider story about the places in which they grow. Sometimes I print, sometimes I draw, sometimes I make with clay!
I have a background teaching art and craft in a variety of settings from museums to prisons, hospitals to schools and galleries to community centers.
