Saul Cathcart
Saul’s teaching encourages patience, preparation and close observation, helping students build depth through layered approaches while gaining confidence in knowing how to respond, adapt and move their work forward. Saul works alongside students, demonstrating practical mark-making techniques and sharing his own problem-solving process as paintings develop.

Saul Cathcart is a contemporary painter whose abstracted landscapes move between intuition and intention. For more than 20 years, he has worked en plein air, drawing inspiration from the distinctive atmosphere, changing light and wild coastal landscape of Cornwall. The coast offers a sense of freedom that allows him to work instinctively, moving fluidly between abstraction and representation.
After graduating in Fine Art Sculpture from Winchester School of Art in 2001, Saul has gone on to exhibit regularly in galleries across Cornwall and the wider UK, while also undertaking a range of commissions and artist residencies. Over time, his practice has evolved into a deeply personal exploration of landscape, memory and a painterly response.
