Course details
The fields are bursting with vegetables – cabbages, squashes, potatoes, beans, turnips and more! Join us as we celebrate this time of growth by turning nature’s harvest into colourful prints.
Gather inspiration from a wonderful jumble of vegetables and discover the magical trick of creating a never-ending repeat pattern through printmaking. Inspired by the bold repeat designs of artist Ben Nicholson, who worked in St Ives from the 1940s onwards, you’ll design your own unique pattern to print and take home.
Workshop leader Ellen Love will also share her lino prints of turnips, inspired by stories of turnips harvested from landslides in Devon.
Perfect for curious young artists who love making, printing and exploring patterns!
For children aged 7-10, this is a Kids Art Club like no other, where children get to work on easels and use the same high art quality materials as our adult courses. They are taught by experienced artist tutors and start to take their first steps as Young Artists.
SCHOLARSHIPS: Thanks to generous support from our fee paying families and St Ives Rotary, we are able to offer up to 4 scholarship places per session awarded on a need basis. If you are on a low income please contact [email protected] for an application form to apply for a free scholarship place.

What to Bring
Our studios are fully equipped and we provide you with all the art materials you need for your workshop, so just bring yourself and lots of enthusiasm!
We provide aprons but encourage you to not wear your best clothes.
Timings and Breaks
The workshops start at 10am and finish at 12pm. We will have a comfort break in the middle.
The class will be held in the ground floor studio at the School of Painting.

Ellen Love
My practice rolls with the seasons. When the buds are forming, when the growth is raucous and full of life, I want to be in it so during Spring and Summer I spend time gathering sketches and ideas from outside. In the Winter months I bring these sketches together inside into patterns and start carving and printing. And then the cycle begins again when Spring comes!
Although my prints often focus on plants, I try to use the plants as a way of telling a wider story about the places in which they grow. Sometimes I print, sometimes I draw, sometimes I make with clay!
I have a background teaching art and craft in a variety of settings from museums to prisons, hospitals to schools and galleries to community centers.
