Young People

We start working with children from the age of 7 and love to build positive and lasting relationships from childhood through to teenage years and beyond – for life.

We have a variety of workshops and projects, ranging from Arts Awards projects for teenagers, to Family Art trails, Sunday Art Clubs for children and tailor made school/college group workshops.

Porthmeor Young Artists

Art programme for young people aged 13-18s that want to do more art out of school and college. They meet fortnightly on Sunday afternoons 1pm-4pm, are guided by a range of professional artists and have fun with different mediums and subjects.

For the 2019-2020 academic year, we have launched a Mini Art Foundation. Designed to help young people discover what makes them tick as an artist, the workshops cover topics that are often not available at school, such as figure drawing, fashion, 3D and printmaking. Led by professional artists, they expand young people’s creative horizons, giving them the chance to create art in a working art studio with exceptional materials and tuition. Students can drop in for individual sessions or enrol for the whole term. Click here to see more.

We recently curated a Young Cornish Artists exhibition and competition at the Penwith Gallery, check here to see the winning artworks and find out more. Check out this video of our Young Artists Festival, all produced by young people doing their Silver Arts Award.

Check out our Instagram page to follow what they have been up to lately.

Culture Camp 2019

In its third year, Culture Camp is the ultimate art camp. Running again in October half-term, this is now a referral only project for teenagers from west Cornwall secondary schools. Five days of painting, drawing and making ceramics at Leach Pottery, plus a behind the scenes visit to Tate St Ives. Based in our studio overlooking the sea, they will get a Bronze Arts Award for taking part. This project is funded by the Wilhelmina Barns-Graham Trust, The National Lottery and Arts Award Access Fund. Click here to see more.

Please contact Cat if your school is interested in being part of this project for 2020 cat@schoolofpainting.co.uk.

Sunday Art Club

For budding artists aged 7-12 on fortnightly Sundays, the workshops runs from 10am-12pm. This is an art club like no other, where children get to work on easels and use the same high-quality materials as those on our adult courses. They are taught by experienced artist tutors and start to take their first steps as young artists. A brilliant introduction to the world of making art! Click here to see more.

Family Art Trail

Enjoy a self guided family art tour of St Ives with our Family Art trail that brings it all to life. Click here to see more.

Fab to represent @stivespainting today for @tatestives Creative Industries day. Ran a collage workshop for some lovely young people and got to chill next to these: a William Scott painting and a David Annesley sculpture. Not too shabby. #thenextgeneration #thefutureisbright #futuredream #youngartists #tatestives #creativeindustry #williamscott #davidannesley #art ...
